Review and impressions after using Nippon Tsushin SIM's Reasonable 290 for one year on iPhone
A one-year review of the low-cost SIM Reasonable 290 with a monthly fee of 290 yen (293 yen to be exact) !
In conclusion,
It's highly recommended for those who think, "As long as the PayPay screen appears, I'm good!"
Since it's a Docomo line, there are no out-of-service areas, but the speed is quite slow.
During peak hours, even the PayPay screen can be slow, but I've never had an issue using e-money or contactless payments like Suica.
In the era of remote work, being able to keep smartphone costs down to around 3500 yen annually is very good.

Line Speed and Usability
Speed Test
During weekday daytime, in a residential area in Kanagawa Prefecture.
The numbers were too good...
On a holiday, at a shopping mall.
Upload was 0Mbps (lol)
But on this day, I made about 5 payments, and there were no issues at all.
Other impressions from using it include:
Inside buildings, the display of PayPay or point cards can be a beat slow.
However, if you display them in advance, there's no problem.
I've never once been unable to use electronic payments or Suica.
Only once, on a subway in Tokyo, it was so slow that I couldn't open a Google search.
If you can tolerate that, I think there are no problems at all.
My Page Looks Like This
There is, for what it's worth, a rather plain My Page.
You can also check the details, and what's being charged is:
- Basic fee 290 yen
- Universal service fee 2 yen
- Telephone relay service fee 1 yen
for a total of exactly 293 yen.
Though for the past two months, it exceeded 1GB and was 512 yen.
Settings when exceeding 1GB
If you do nothing, the speed will be reduced, but you can purchase an additional 220 yen/1GB.
You can also set up auto-charging and specify at how many GB it should stop.
I have it set to auto-purchase up to 3GB. If I want to use more than that, I purchase it manually from My Page.
These settings are very convenient, aren't they?
Calls
It's 11 yen per 30 seconds.
Since it's the standard phone app, the call quality is considered to be the same as major carriers.

Rough Steps for Application
Compared to Rakuten Mobile and others, the manual isn't as detailed, but
if you look at the Nippon Tsushin SIM activation guide page and
feel like "I can do this exactly as instructed!", then you should be fine!
Here are the rough steps for MNP transfer with eSIM on iPhoneSE2.
- Obtain an MNP reservation number from your current carrier.
- Apply for MNP transfer from the Reasonable 290 page.
- During application, upload your driver's license or other ID for identity verification.
- You'll receive an email stating "Identity verification complete," and you'll be able to access My Page.
- After 2-3 days, a plain document will arrive by mail; enter the code written on it into My Page.
- Address verification will be completed, and activation will occur simultaneously.
- An email will arrive with a URL to the activation guide page; follow those instructions to set it up.
- Once connected to the Docomo line, setup is successfully complete!
No paper manuals or similar documents will be sent.
You'll only receive a plain A4 sheet with the address verification code and the activation guide page URL.
While it's not same-day activation, I thought it was very good for those who are used to it, as there were no particular troubles and the process was straightforward!
