iOS Shortcut Recipe: Compress and Share (Camera)

There are two types: one for compressing photos selected from the library, and another for compressing photos taken directly with the camera.

Compress and Share (Library)

First, let's talk about the recipe for selecting from the library.

Let's use this photo as an example.
The photo size is 2.4MB. Photos taken with an iPhone are usually around this size.

iPhone Photos app: Check size (capacity)

First, if you send it normally, it will be slightly compressed by LINE's standard feature, and the size was 1.1MB.

If you send and receive 5 photos daily, that's an estimated 165MB of data consumed over 30 days.

Next, here's how to use the shortcut.

Tap the share icon at the bottom left of the Photos app.

Tap 'Compress and Share'.

Initially, the shortcut should not appear in this position.

You need to bring 'Compress and Share' to the top from 'Edit Actions' at the bottom of the share menu. The order is up to you.

The 'Compress and Share' process runs, and the share menu appears again.

This time, we'll share it on LINE, so tap LINE.
At this point, the image size is shown as 129KB.

Shared on LINE. The second image is the compressed one.
The size became 285KB. (It increased from 129KB for some reason, but oh well...)

If it's around 300KB, sending and receiving 5 photos daily would be an estimated 45MB over 30 days. That's about one-third of the original!

How to Use

First, to make the shortcut easy to run, you can add it to a widget or add it to your home screen.

To add it to your home screen, open the shortcut's details and tap 'Share Icon > Add to Home Screen'.

Tap the icon to run the shortcut.

The camera will launch, so take the photo you want to share.

From here on, it's mostly the same as the usage in the previous section, so please refer to that for details on specific compressible sizes.

After taking a photo, the share menu will appear.

This time, we'll share it on LINE, so tap LINE.

You can share the compressed photo on LINE.

Normally, photos taken with the camera and sent via LINE seem to be around 1MB, but using this shortcut should keep them around 300KB.
