[No App Required] 3 ways to scan QR codes on your screen in iOS

Here are three ways to scan QR codes displayed on your iPhone or iPad screen.

Since these methods use standard iOS features, no additional apps are required!

Method ① (For Safari) Scan QR codes by long-pressing

If you are viewing a QR code on a website in Safari, you can scan it by long-pressing the QR code.

When you long-press the QR code,

A screen like this will appear, and you can open the link from 'Open'.

This method may not work for QR codes on PDFs or depending on how the website is built, so please try the next method in those cases.

By the way, this method did not work in the Chrome browser on iOS.

Method ② Take a screenshot and scan from the Photos app

Take a screenshot of the QR code and
open the Photos app.

Open the screenshot you took and tap the 'Live Text' icon displayed in the bottom right.

Text and QR codes will be recognized, so tap the QR code.

'Open in Safari' will appear, and you can open it.

This 'Live Text' feature requires iOS 15 or later.

Bonus: Scan with the LINE app

Apologies for claiming 'no app required,' but for those who haven't had success so far, here's a method using LINE.

First, take a screenshot of the QR code.

Next, open LINE and tap the QR code scan icon displayed to the right of the search bar.

The camera will launch.

Tap the square photo gallery icon in the bottom right.

Tap the screenshot you took.

The link destination will be displayed at the top of the screen, so tap it.

It will be displayed in LINE's in-app browser.
If you want to open it in Safari, tap 'Open in browser' from the icon in the bottom right.
