Actual steps for MNP transfer from Rakuten Mobile to irumo using eSIM (with images)

Obtaining an MNP Reservation Number from Rakuten Mobile

To transfer your phone number, you need to obtain an MNP Reservation Number from Rakuten Mobile.

Both Rakuten Mobile and irumo support the one-stop method, so obtaining an MNP reservation number is not strictly necessary. However, there was one instance in the past where it didn't work smoothly, so this time I obtained it to ensure a successful transfer.

We will proceed according to the 'How to Issue MNP Reservation Number' steps on the Rakuten Mobile official website.

I want to transfer to another company (MNP Outflow), what should I do? | Customer Support | Rakuten Mobile

Open my Rakuten Mobile, tap 'Contract Plan' and then 'Proceed to various procedures'.

Tap 'Transfer to another company (MNP)'.

Notes will be displayed. If there are no issues, tap 'Proceed to next'.

Notes Part 2 will be displayed. If there are no issues, tap 'Proceed to next'.

Select 'Issue MNP Reservation Number' and tap 'Proceed to next'.

Notes will be displayed. Check all boxes and tap 'Proceed to next'.

Notes Part 2 will be displayed. Check all boxes and tap 'Proceed to next'.

Answer the survey and tap 'Issue MNP Reservation Number'.

Enter the one-time password sent to your phone number.
In my case, tapping '○○○○○○ from message' somehow failed. I recommend typing it manually.

The MNP reservation number has been obtained.
In my case, I did not receive a confirmation email from Rakuten Mobile.
Take a screenshot or make a note of the 'MNP Reservation Number' and 'Expiration Date' as they will be needed later.

irumo Application Steps

Now, let's apply for irumo.

Tap 'Apply'.

Enter your application details.

In my case, I entered the following:

• Use current phone number
• Other mobile carrier
• Do not buy a smartphone
• eSIM

Items you should prepare in advance will be displayed.

Approximately the following is written:

1. Obtaining an MNP Reservation Number

   Are the irumo subscriber name and the transfer-source subscriber name the same?

   Is the MNP reservation number's validity period 10 days or more remaining?

2. Are the submitted identity verification document and current address the same?

3. Prepare a credit card or bank account for payment

   Is the name on the account the same as the irumo subscriber name?

4. Is it an irumo compatible device?

   You can check compatible devices here.

   If you purchased your smartphone from a carrier other than Docomo, you may need to unlock the SIM.

5. Turn VoLTE on

   Since this setting cannot be made before the contract (while still with Rakuten Mobile), you can probably skip it for now.

   If you experience no service after contracting, you can refer to the following help page.

   How to deal with no service after changing plans

The rate plan and options selection screen will be displayed.

In my case, I entered the following:

• 3GB
• Do not apply for voice call option
• Do not apply for Docomo Mail
• Do not wish for home 5G / Docomo Hikari set discount

To continue using Docomo Mail (@docomo.ne.jp), you need to apply for Docomo Mail.

You will be asked for your d Account.
Log in and tap 'Next'.

(For transfers only) Enter your information.

Select your identity verification document.
You can use a driver's license or My Number Card.

The identity verification (eKYC) steps and confirmation items will be displayed.
On the next page, you will photograph your identity verification document and your face.

You will be redirected to another site. Tap 'Next'.

Confirm the content, check the box, and tap 'Proceed to next'.

If a pop-up requesting camera access appears, allow it.

I will omit showing everything, but on a screen like this, you will photograph the front, back, and thickness of your identity verification document, as well as your face and outline.
Please follow the on-screen instructions.

Once identity verification is complete, you will return to the irumo site.
Tap 'Close tab'.

Enter your customer information.
You will be asked for your name, gender, date of birth, address, EID, whether you have a family discount, etc.

Set a 4-digit network PIN.
If you think you might forget it, write it down.

Set your payment method.
If using a credit card, it must be in the name of the subscriber.

In my case, I was redirected to the VISA authentication page.

Once authentication is complete, the consent and notes confirmation will be displayed.

I forgot to take a screenshot, but
the next screen will show the application content confirmation.

If there are no mistakes, proceed to the next step.

The completion screen will be displayed.

The application is now complete.

For eSIM, you will then wait for the profile readiness notification.

I thought it would be the same day, but in my case, it was 3 days later. (Too slow...)

irumo Activation Steps

3 days after application.

I received an email stating that the eSIM profile was ready.

Now we will proceed with the activation procedure, basically following the steps on the page below.

Setup and Activation after Product Arrival | Application Flow | irumo

Log in to irumo.

Tap 'Delivery Status / Activation'.

The procedure status says 'Activation preparation complete'.

The available time for the procedure is '9 AM to 9 PM'.

Also, you need to be connected to Wi-Fi.

If there are no issues, tap the 'Switch Line' button.

The line switching confirmation screen will be displayed.
Confirm the content and tap 'Perform line switch'.

It will say 'Line switch complete'.

A push notification will arrive, tap it.

Alternatively, tap 'Set up Mobile Data' from Settings.

It will say 'Activate eSIM', so tap 'Continue'.

After a short wait, Mobile Data setup will be complete.

Restart your device.

Then the Docomo network antenna will appear, and activation is complete!

A confirmation email arrived from irumo

And a cancellation completion email arrived from Rakuten Mobile.
